My altura 56 has a different remote where each fan speed button turns the fan on so as you instructed i killed the power to the fan and removed the battery from the remote for 30 seconds then reinstalled battery and turned power to fan back on then pushed and held the fan off button until it clicked on after holding for only about 3 seconds.
